Well, it's finally official!
The Polk-Wisdom Branch Library will be closing for renovation on September 24th, 2011. We expect the building to be closed for about one year while extensive (and beautiful) changes are made.
Come into the Library to see the architect's drawings of the renovated building! It will have even more natural light, lots of stations for personal laptop use, study "rooms" that can be formed and re-formed in different configurations, classrooms and more! If you have any questions about the renovation, or how this will all work, please ask us. The Staff is happy to talk with you about the changes.
All of our materials will be available in the Library system. They will not be stored, but housed at many different branches. If you have particular favorites that you like to re-read, re-view or re-listen to, just look for them in the Catalog. They can be sent to any Dallas Public Library branch. You'll see our staff at many of the branches as well. Please say "Hi", 'cause we'll miss you.
As of September 9th, requested material will be available for pick-up at the Highland Hills Branch on Simpson Stuart Rd, unless you have us change your pick-up location to a different branch. Please make sure to be proactive about this (we're trying to remind everyone too). The sooner you choose your new "home branch" the less disruption you'll have in getting your requested items.

Meet the Herd!
The Polk-Wisdom Branch Library would like you to meet the newest members of our community!
Penelope, Bubbles and Lenny !
Many, many thanks to everyone who entered the Name the Herd contest! Our winners are:
Kenya E. "Penelope"
Skiler H. "Bubbles"
Elroy L. "Lenny"
Our winners will soon have their pictures taken with "their" elephant.
P.S. - keep an eye out for our herd while the Polk-Wisdom Branch is closed for renovation. You'll probably see them at other branches in the system, just waiting to come home to a beautiful new building!

Hello!
Wow! I can't believe it's been so long since I last filled you in on happenings at Polk-Wisdom Library.
We have a Teen book discussion group, IDEAS, that started last month. They're currently reading HateList by Jennifer Brown. They'll meet to discuss it this Saturday (4/3) at 1:00 pm. If you've read the book, come join the discussion; or just come to get in on the next book. Everyone gets their own books to read and keep.
A special Volunteer Appreciation Event will be held on Thursday evening, April 14th starting at 6pm. We want to honor all our wonderful Volunteers. If you're a Volunteer, please plan to come join us. You're also welcome to join us if you just want to help us thank our Volunteers.
Polk-Wisdom Branch Library is getting ready for renovation! There are no exact dates yet, but we've been told to expect to close sometime around May and re-opening in the Spring of 2012. We've had lots of engineering types running around lately, so I think it really is going to happen. Take a look at the historical display over by the computers. There are some great photos and publications from the opening in 1970.

Staff news
In case you were wondering where our manager, Linda Holland, has gotten off to; she has retired. Linda worked for the Dallas Public Library for 33 years (whew!). She says she's going to get up in the mornings for a few months and just do the crossword puzzle. Then she'll decide what new projects to tackle.
Good luck to you Linda. We'll miss you.

All Hallows Eve (almost)
Don't be too scared if you meet Gricelda in the darkest corners of the library - she doesn't bite hard.
A friendly Tiger. Just don't step on my tail please!
